FLOWING HISTORIES MAP

The Flowing Histories project depicts the history of the Gorge Waterway as a web-based interactive map. This project was originally created by Natasha Danias and Daniel Brendle-Moczuk in partnership with the Gorge Waterway Action Society (GWAS) during the summer of 2024. In June 2025, this project was put under the direction of Frances McCleary and Abbey Heard, two summer staff with backgrounds in community mapping, digital tools and environmental education. The guiding principles of the project were to expand the historical narrative of the Gorge, improve the user experience and initiate knowledge sharing within GWAS and the community that regularly interacts with the waterway. Work on the map and its content is ongoing between GWAS staff and partners in the community.
