OUR COLLABORATIVES
Collaboration is central to the work of the Gorge Waterway Action Society. We work alongside community groups, environmental organizations, educators, governments and other partners to strengthen environmental education, conservation, ecological restoration and climate action. Through these collaboratives, organizations can share knowledge, resources and expertise while working together toward common environmental and community goals.
In addition to actively participating in collaboratives, GWAS also leads and coordinates collaboratives, acting as the fiduciary backbone organization and coordinator for the Greater Victoria NatureHood (GVNH), the Ocean Conservation Education and Action Network South Vancouver Island (OCEAN SVI), and the Craigflower Creek Coalition (CCC).
Our Collaboratives look to address complex problems that no one organization can solve on its own.

Greater Victoria NatureHood
Greater Victoria NatureHood is a collaborative effort that brings together non-profit, public and private organizations to connect residents with nearby nature, with a particular focus on youth, families, and equity-deserving groups. The collaborative encourages people to experience, protect and restore nature throughout the Greater Victoria region.

Camossung Biosphere Region Project
A Subcommittee of the Greater Victoria NatureHood is beginning the process to nominate Greater Victoria as a UNESCO Biosphere Region under the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB). Biosphere Regions bring together three complementary functions: learning places for sustainable development; supporting science and education; and building economic development that is socio-culturally-environmentally sustainable.
