Gastropod Veligers

Class Gastropoda belongs to the Phylum Mollusca and are described as snails and their relatives. In plankton samples, the basic larval form of gastropods (the veliger) can be seen. Gastropod veligers look like miniature snail shells with a retractable velum (a membranous structure) that they can use for swimming.
